Restaurant Tosses No Garbage in 2 Years…

Ever cringe when adding another bag of garbage to the world's waste? Then consider Justin Vrany, who says his Chicago restaurant has produced only 8 gallons of garbage in two yearsthe amount many restaurants toss in a single hour, Time reports. In fact, an artist picked up those 8 gallons for a sculpture, "so we are now official a zero-waste restaurant," he says in a new video. What's more, his establishment runs on renewable energy and gets produce and meat from local farms. Yet Vrany admits he wasn't always so green-conscious.

"I used to eat whatever and do whatever I wanted to do," he says. But he went back to school and learned "how to utilize" waste. "It just opened my mind." His inspiration for running Sandwich Me In also stems from his parents, who were once jobless and had to make a single turkey stretch over 3 or 4 days: "That kind of stuff sticks with you." Now he makes 98% of food in-house, including drinks, and sends fruit and vegetable compost to a Wisconsin farm to feed chickens that lay his restaurant's eggs, CBS Chicago reports. Still, he doesn't "want to be in the spotlight," he says. "I just want to change things, for my kids, for all of us."

Donald Sterling The Magic Picture That Triggered Racial Rant…

This is the picture that triggered the conversation between L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling and his girlfriend ... the conversation in which he said he did not want her bringing Magic Johnson or any other African American to his games.

In the pic -- obtained by TMZ Sports -- V. Stiviano is on the right.  The woman on the left is V's friend, Rachel Rodriguez.

Stiviano says on the audio -- and Sterling acknowledges -- he made her take the pic off Instagram because he didn't want her seen in public with an African American.

In another tape ... Sterling expressed similar disdain for posting this pic (above) -- also obtained by TMZ Sports -- of Stiviano with L.A. Dodger Matt Kemp.

Both pics were taken months ago -- apparently at Dodger Stadium -- but she posted them only recently and then took them down at Sterling's behest.

Jessie Jackson & Keith Olbermann Call For L.A. Clippers Players To Boycott Over Donald Sterling's Racist Comments. Dominique Wilkins, Meek Mill Speak Out [Video/Audio]

Video And Audio After The Jump
L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling has created a firestorm that isn't likely to die down soon. Sterling told his mixed race girlfriend V. Stiviano, to stop being seen in public with black people. He even forbid her from bringing Magic Johnson to Clippers games and forbid her from posting photos of blacks on her Instagram.
V. Stiviano
Reactions to the comments leaked by TMZ in an audiotape they obtained has been swift and understandably harsh.
Keith Olbermann
Television host Keith Olbermann responded via Twitter by saying Clippers player should boycott until the NBA takes action against Sterling.
"Repeating: time for  players to step up. Refuse to play till NBA moves against this racist j****** . NBA can't defend him," Olbermann wrote. "I was banned by the  for criticism of the front office - in 1986. This made me the envy of every other LA sports media person."
Meek Mill also spoke out on Twitter.
Donald sterling is the definition of racism .... He could b your judge.... Your doctor.....you teacher etc... I bet nothing happens 2 him!

Repeating: time for players to step up. Refuse to play till NBA moves against this racist jackass . NBA can't defend him
Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson demanded that something be done by the NBA and the Clippers players.
"This is a racially insulting, demeaning statement. Because we have dignity, we have an insult level,: Jackson told TMZ. "The first issue is what will the NBA do about it. He's an NBA owner. Does he violate an ethic of conduct by by the NBA and it;s owners? They must respond and respond quickly. Second, the player's association must respond. Because you have players in the union who work for Mr. Srerling. Just as the players showed sensitivity to the Trayvon Martin situation with some symbolic expression. In the case of the Miami Heat they wore their hoodies. The players for the Clippers should show some sign if indignation."
Donald Sterling
Former NBA All-Star and current Atlanta Vice President of Basketball, Dominique Wilkins told TMZ that Sterling's comments prove racism is still alive in 2014.
As a VP for the Hawks it is appalling to wake up to this story. It is in no way anything that I know MY NBA at ANY level to promote, condone or harbor behind closed doors or openly. As a black man living in the South, this is not something that is a surprise. Racism is prevalent, still a problem and something that can NOT be taken lightly in ANY context! As a former Clipper, I feel for the community of LA. It is a melting pot of culture and ALL races. For Clipper fans, staff and players, I do hope this is dealt with swiftly and justly. It is just totally disappointing.

Snoop Dogg Curses Out Donald Sterling: "You Racist Piece Of Shit"

Snoop Dogg Curses Out Donald Sterling: "You Racist Piece Of Shit"

Snoop Dogg goes in on Donald Sterling, after the L.A. Clippers owner's racist remarks were caught on tape.

L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling is catching quite a tongue-lashing from rappers, after a recording of him expressing extremely racist views hit the internet earlier today, telling his girlfriend that she should not bring black people to his games.
While Meek Mill leveled Sterling with the title of the "definition of racism",Snoop Dogg may have just one-upped him in terms of name-calling.
Uncle Snoop decided to address the owner directly via an Instagram video. While a short clip, Snoop manages to pack a whole lot of cuss words into the 17-second runtime.
The rapper calls Sterling a "bitch-ass redneck, white bread, chicken shit mother fucker," before closing with, "Fuck you, your momma, and everything else connected to you, you racist piece of shit. Fuck you!".

As satisfying as Snoop's verbal attack might seem, justice will not be truly served until Sterling is punished by the NBA.

The voice notes were leaked from a Blackberry smartphone belonging to Vybz Kartel. Kartel and his friend Problem could be heard blaming Shawn Storm for the missing guns and warns if they are not found there will be serious consequence.

Reps for both Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm told JoeBlaxTV that the rumors are false and both men are still friends.
“It’s police spreading these false rumors and leaking these pictures to prejudice the appeal,” the rep told us. “The Gaza is still united and Shawn and Addi remain strong in the face of this injustice. There was no fight or fallout. All we are focusing on is the appeal.”
Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones are all serving life sentences in a maximum security prison. Another man, Shane Williams, was acquitted of the murder.
The four men were convicted on March 13 for the 2011 murder of their friend Clive “Lizard” Williams over two missing guns.
Clive Williams’ body has not been found.

St. Louis Armed Robber Was Never Told To Report To Prison 13 Year Ago...Should He Be Set Free Now?

ST. LOUIS (AP) After he was convicted of armed robbery in 2000, Cornealious Anderson was sentenced to 13 years behind bars and told to await instructions on when and where to report to prison. But those instructions never came.

So Anderson didnt report. He spent the next 13 years turning his life around  getting married, raising four kids, learning a trade. He made no effort to conceal his identity or whereabouts. Anderson paid taxes and traffic tickets, renewed his drivers license and registered his businesses.

Not until last year did the Missouri Department of Corrections discover the clerical error that kept him free. Now hes fighting for release, saying authorities missed their chance to incarcerate him.

In a single day last July, Andersons life was turned upside-down.

They sent a SWAT team to his house, Andersons attorney, Patrick Megaro, said Wednesday. He was getting his 3-year-old daughter breakfast, and these men with automatic weapons bang on his door.
Anderson, 37, was taken to Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, Mo., to begin serving the sentence. A court appeal filed in February asks for him to be freed.

Anderson had just one arrest for marijuana possession on his record when he and a cousin robbed an assistant manager for a St. Charles Burger King restaurant on Aug. 15, 1999. The men, wearing masks, showed a gun (it turned out to be a BB gun) and demanded money that was about to be placed in a deposit box.

The worker gave up the bag of cash, and the masked men drove away. The worker turned in the cars license plate number.

Anderson was convicted and sentenced to 13 years in prison and waited for word on what to do next.

His attorney said, Listen, theyre going to get you some day, so just wait for the order, Megaro said. As time goes by, the order never comes. What does a normal person believe? Maybe they forgot about it. Its only human nature to hope they just let it go. He really didnt know what to do.

A year goes by, two years, five years, 10 years. Hes thinking, I guess they dont care about me anymore, Megaro said.
So Anderson went about his life. Megaro said he was not a fugitive, was never on the run. In fact, just the opposite.

Megaro described Anderson as a model citizen a married father who became a carpenter and started three businesses. He paid income and property taxes and kept a drivers license showing his true name and address. When he was pulled over for a couple of traffic violations, nothing showed up indicating he should be in prison.

Thats why Anderson was shocked when the marshals arrived.

He now lives among the general population at Charleston. Megaro said Anderson is holding his own barely.

Hes doing his best to keep his spirits up, Megaro said. Each day that goes by, more hope is lost. Its a daily struggle for him.
Peter Joy, director of the Criminal Justice Clinic at the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, said it isnt unusual in a country with such a high prison population for sentences to fall through the cracks. What is unusual, Joy said, is for it to go unnoticed for so long.

The real tragedy here is that one aspect of prison is the idea of rehabilitation, Joy said. Here we have somebody who has led a perfect life for 13 years. He did everything right. So he doesnt need rehabilitation.
What happens next isnt clear. Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster on Tuesday filed a court response that said the state is justified in making Anderson serve the sentence.

However, Koster wrote that Megaro could refile the case as an action against the director of the Department of Corrections, which could give Anderson credit for the time he was technically at large.

Megaro doubted that strategy would work. He said the law does not allow credit for time served when the convicted person was not behind bars.

I dont think thats an option, unfortunately, Megaro said.
Instead, hes relying on case law. The last time anything like this happened in Missouri was 1912. In that case, the convicted man was set free, Megaro said.

Gov. Jay Nixon could also commute the sentence. A spokesman for Nixon declined to comment.

More than 33,000 people have signed a petition started on Change.org, calling for Andersons release.
