More and more dancehall personalities are stepping out of the shadows to give their piece on Vybz Kartel‘s recent controversial statement.
“Dancehall is in jail,” Vybz Kartel said during an interview with The Voice’s Life & Life.
Although, dancehall has remained quiet about the statement, there is a growing sense of unease among artists and producers.Demarco is the latest dancehall artists to give his piece on the touchy subject. In an interview posted on his YouTube page, the “I Love My Life” hitmaker says yes dancehall is “playing” in jail.
“What I want to say is that I go on a lot of plane, and I’ve been all over the world to promote dancehall music,” Demarco said. “I know a lot of artists who go all over the world and I’ve been all over the world and its dancehall I was booked for. So if Kartel say dancehall is in prison then dancehall is in prison yes because every prison must have a radio in their cell. So dancehall must be playing in prison.”Demarco also opened up about the lack of unity in dancehall, the lack of support at Patrick Roach funeral from dancehall, and touring.
